Former Congressman Patrick McHenry Joins Leading Blockchain Companies

Ex-Lawmaker Takes Advisory Roles at Andreessen Horowitz, Stripe, and Ondo Finance

Patrick McHenry, a former Republican congressman from North Carolina and past chair of the House Financial Services Committee, has recently taken on advisory positions at three prominent companies in the blockchain and financial technology sectors.

In February 2025, McHenry joined venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) as a senior advisor. In this role, he aims to assist innovators in navigating policy landscapes to foster growth and innovation. McHenry expressed his enthusiasm, stating he is eager to help policymakers understand the importance of allowing innovation to thrive.

Additionally, McHenry has taken on an advisory role at payment processing giant Stripe. His experience in financial services is expected to provide valuable insights as Stripe continues to expand its offerings in the digital payment space.

Most recently, McHenry was appointed as vice chairman of the advisory board at Ondo Finance, a company specializing in tokenized real-world assets. Ondo Finance focuses on bringing traditional financial products, such as U.S. Treasuries, onto blockchain platforms, offering yield-bearing digital financial products. McHenry’s role will involve fostering beneficial relationships in Washington and supporting policy discussions related to these innovative financial products.

Throughout his 20-year tenure in Congress, McHenry was a vocal advocate for the cryptocurrency industry, working on legislation to establish regulatory frameworks for digital assets and stablecoins. His transition to these advisory roles reflects a growing trend of former policymakers engaging directly with the fintech and blockchain industries to bridge the gap between innovation and regulation.
